Thank you for using TEMPCODE.COM!
What is TEMPCODE.COM?
*****************************************************************
TEMPCODE.COM is a place for storing source code or any plain text.
How can I use TEMPCODE.COM?
*****************************************************************
You can use TEMPCODE.COM for storing any source code or plain text.
Please do not post source code or text which you do not own or
have permission to use. That might be illegal and TEMPCODE.COM does
not condone or tolerate illegal activity.
Do I need to sign up to use TEMPCODE.COM?
*****************************************************************
Nope. Accounts are not necessary. (See note on security.)
How can I keep my code semi-private and organized?
*****************************************************************
Well, I'm glad you asked! Just invent your own subdomain at
whatever.tempcode.com and it will only show code that was created
at that location. For Example:
1) http://java.tempcode.com
2) http://my-company.tempcode.com
3) http://my-full-name.tempcode.com
4) http://i.love.to.eat.cake.tempcode.com
The more unique you make your name, the less likely it is that
someone else will choose it as well. This is by no means security,
however it does make it harder for someone to find your goodies.
How do I get started?
*****************************************************************
It's easy! Follow these steps:
1. Go to http://tempcode.com
2. Paste or type some code in the giant text box
3. Name your code (optional)
4. Select which language your code is written in (optional)
5. Choose the lifetime of your code
6. Click the Save New Code button
7. You will be redirected to your code page. Save that URL!
What does Lifetime mean?
*****************************************************************
Lifetime indicates how long you want a particular bit of code to
live. If you just need to IM or email someone some code one time
then you might choose One Day as the lifetime. After one day,
your code will be deleted.
Perhaps you want to send a piece of code back and forth between
a buddy or two for a few days or weeks? If that's the case then
choose One Month as the lifetime.
If you wrote the perfect piece of code that you want to keep
referencing for ever and ever then set the lifetime to Forever.
What does the Email This Code button do?
*****************************************************************
It does exactly what you think it does. Clicking that button will
allow you to email the code to any valid email address. The code
will arrive in perfect format and color coding.
HTML email is required for this feature.
How do I highlight lines of code?
*****************************************************************
Simply add three stars (asterisks) at the beginning of each line to
be highlighted. The stars will not show up in the display, email
or print views of the code.
Is TEMPCODE.COM secure?
*****************************************************************
Nope and it's not meant to be. TEMPCODE.COM is a place to paste
source code and share with others.
Can anyone really see and edit anything on TEMPCODE.COM?
*****************************************************************
Yes.
I don't remember the URL for a piece of code I saved. Ahhh!
*****************************************************************
Sorry mate. You have to save the URLs on your own. There are no
accounts required for TEMPCODE.COM so you cannot login and see
everything you've saved.
Why did you make TEMPCODE.COM?
*****************************************************************
I made TEMPCODE.COM because every time I try to send Jon some C#
code in Outlook all the formatting gets messed up. It drives me
nuts to remove all the extra line breaks that it adds. Yes, I
could use plain text email but that's a pain too!
Normally, I'd prefer to IM code to people anyway but that's just
not practical either if it's any more than a few lines.
What is GeSHi?
*****************************************************************
GeSHi is an open-source Generic Syntax Highlighter available for
free from http://qbnz.com/highlighter
This crappy website doesn't work well on my computer!
*****************************************************************
I tested TEMPCODE.COM under the following scenarios:
Windows XP
Internet Explorer 6
Mozilla Firefox 1.5
Mac OS X
Mozilla Firefox 1.5
Safari 2.0
I am not interested in supporting older browsers, sorry.
Do I really need to have JavaScript enabled to use TEMPCODE.COM?
*****************************************************************
Yes, very much so.

Sendin' some greetz out -->
* Nicole, for her inspiration to build cool things. ;-D
* Jon, for insisting on using TEMPCODE.COM even when everything
wasn't fully developed or working yet!
* Joe, for testing on OS X while I was on my XP machine and for
keeping me company for several hours while I coded.
